The Bluegrass Area Basketmakers Seminar began with its first planning meeting in 1995 and held its first seminar in April of 1996 at Camp Burnamwood in Estill County. The seminar has been held at the Lake Cumberland Leadership Center and 4-H Camp in Jabez, Kentucky for the past 15 years. The June 18-22, 2013 Seminar will be our 18th Annual Event. The Seminar has grown from 35 people attending to having over 200 in attendance with the average being around 181 participants. Students come from all over the country and we’ve even had a student from England. There have been over 10,000 baskets made!!

Our classes for 2013 offer many different skill levels, a variety of techniques and a wide range of basket weaving arts and historical background. This year’s seminar is offering over 90 different classes.

The Bluegrass Area Basketmakers Seminar Committee is a group of volunteers who love the art of basket weaving and want to share its beauty and history with others. We strive to preserve the age old skills of this practical art form, while at the same time exploring new techniques and materials. The Committee benefits from having two Kentucky Extension agents as members/advisors. Their knowledge and expertise is a great asset. The Seminar is sponsored by the Bluegrass Area Extension Homemakers.

The 2013 Seminar will be held Tueday, June 18, 2013 through Saturday, June 22, 2013.   The Seminar Catalog, containing the baskets that will be made at the Seminar, and the registration form are linked below.
